history

Founded in Boston, Massachusettes in 1996, The Leather Group, Inc. has grown into a globally recognized leather sales and sourcing company.  Having offices in China, India, and United States ensures our ability to better service our customers where ever they manufacture the end product.


The Leather Group, Inc.'s founder, Matthew Feuer, has deep roots in the leather industry, as his family has been in the tanning industry since the early 1900's, and also helped run one of the largest tanning groups in the United Stated until 1994, Feuer Leather Group.


Mr. Feuer recognized the shift of production from North America to Asian countries in the early 1990's, and created his company in order to continue to work with the USA brands, but by supplying quality leathers closer to the new factory base.  Shorter lead times!  Quality leathers!


Today, we continue to move with the times, and look forward to continuing to build strong partnerships with both our suppliers and customers.

supply timeline

Jan. 1996: Signed first contract with CURTIDOS STAR, SA de CV (Mexico) to act as their exclusive sales office in North America. Side leathers and splits for use in North, Latin, and South America.
April 1997: Signed contract with YOUNG CHANG SILUP (Korea) to act as their exclusive sales office in North America. Side leathers for use within Asia.
January 2001: Signed contract with YOUNGIL (Korea) to act as their exclusive sales office in North America. PU Splits made in Korea for use within Asia.
April 2001: Opened The Leather Group India to act as sourcing office for key items from India for use globally.
August 2001: Opened The Leather Group Brazil to act as sourcing office for all leathers to be supplied from South America. Use is global.
September 2001: Started working with one of the world's largest tanner of pigskin for various uses, such as lining, upper, and others. Based in Southern China.
April 2002: NANYI - Side leathers made on USA hides. Salamanca, Flamingo, Deerbuc, Santos, and various other key production leathers.

June 1996: Hired Lindgren Corp in Penn. to act as sales agency for the mid-atlantic states.
July 1998: Hired SEBCO in St. Louis to act as sales agency for Miss. Arkansas, and other key accounts.
Aug. 2000: Hired RF HOOD in Toronto, Canada to act as sales agency for all of Canada.
March 2001: Hired Mike Williams in Nashville, Tenn. to handle all southeaster states.
June 2001: Hired Moses Sales to handle the Southwest sales efforts.
May 2004: Started working with STU Goldsmith in order to service our customers's requirements in the NY/TRI-STATE AREAS.
